BROOKLYN NORTH WINS NATIONAL COMPETITION

Halifax, Brooklyn North Software Works was selected among 11 Canadian software firms to receive market research and analysis valued in excess of $20,000 from International Data Corporation (Canada) Ltd. (IDCC) of Toronto. The Halifax company was chosen "on the basis of its current strong market position, its need for market research and apparent market opportunities," said Paul Kennedy, president of IDCC.

Offered in cooperation with Industry Canada, IDCC's first annual Software Market Research Grant aims to foster growth and strengthen competitiveness within the Canadian software development sector.

Founded in Halifax in 1994, Brooklyn North Software Works developed the world's first commercial Web page editor, HTML Assistant Pro, which is used to create documents that are published on the World Wide Web. The company is currently developing new Web tools to stay ahead of the technology curve. Meanwhile, the popular HTML Assistant Pro continues to win awards including the U.S. Government Best Buys Award in 1995 and PC Magazine's (Great Britain) Editor's Choice Award in 1996.

Having received the research grant, Brooklyn North now has access to key information resources of IDCC's parent, International Data Corporation (IDC):

  • IDC's international library of market research
  • IDC's teams of analysts
  • workshops on how to develop Canadian distribution channels
  • intelligence tools needed to expand the company's presence into Canadian, American and world markets.

IDCC is Canada's leading information technology research authority. Its parent, IDC, has research centres in 40 countries and more than 300 research analysts worldwide.

The Software Market Research Grant is offered to software firms that have both head-office and development facilities located in Canada. The company must have a product on the market and revenues between $200,000 and $5 million.
